Ditte Reffstrup, Ganni’s creative director, was talking to his wife and brand founder Nicolaj about artificial intelligence technology before he started working on his latest collection. “I did a design brief via ChatGPT and it was actually pretty convincing,” Nicolaj tells Vogue. “My first reaction was, ‘I might not have a job tomorrow,'” adds Reffstrup.

Although the brief was not picked up by the design team, it provided a starting point for the collection. “This is very Ganni work: lots of nature breezes, flowers, a very soft aesthetic, but also this futuristic feel and structured silhouettes,” the creative director continues.

The Fashion Show Featured Talking AI Trees

To complete this season’s theme, Ganni has worked with artificial intelligence artist Cecilie Waagner Falkenstrøm to create five “humanized” artificial intelligence robots in the form of talking living trees, programmed to represent Ganni’s daughters through speakers hanging from branches. Like Reffstrup, the AI Ganni robot likes to stay up late at parties and dance around tables, but it also cares about sustainability and B-Corp certification.

Paloma Elsesser Talked About Her New Collaboration With Ganni

Model Paloma Elsesser, one of Ganni’s daughters, who first took the runway for the Danish clothing brand in January 2020, wore a flowy hoodie dress to showcase her new five-piece collaboration with Ganni. Reffstrup explains how the collaboration came about: “I would normally say I have no inspiration, but Paloma is one of my few heroes in the fashion industry,” she says. “It would be unwise not to ask him if he would like to create something together.”

New Generation Materials Made From Olive Oil And Algae

Ganni has long been at the forefront of eco-friendly material innovations, from Pyratex’s banana waste fabric to Ohoskin, a leather alternative made from orange and cactus waste. “Materials are predominantly where our carbon footprint is derived, so it’s critical that we support these innovative businesses,” says Nicolaj.

This season, three materials from the brand’s Fabrics of the Future initiative appeared on the podium: Oleatex, a leather alternative produced using olive oil production waste; algreen, biodegradable and recyclable straws made from seaweed and agricultural waste; and Circulose, a recycled material made from 100 percent discarded textile waste.

The trail-ready Advanced Xt-6 sneakers from Adidas Sambas and Salomon are currently vying to be the cool girls’ summer choice, while New Balance is the Ganni girls’ sneaker choice. After a sell-out collaboration last year, a new eye-catching yellow design made its way onto the runway. “Working with the New Balance team is so much fun,” Reffstrup says. “We worked with some classic silhouettes with our signature color combinations; You can really see Ganni in it.”
