Jane Angert has spent her career selling Hermès handbags. Her business, JaneFinds, caters to high-end clients looking for hard-to-find bags, such as the famed Hermès-made Birkin.

So when it came to the wallpaper in her lakefront New Jersey home, she knew she wanted to use Hermès.

“I love Hermès,” she said. “I’m a huge collector myself. I love the prints, the quality, the color.”

She put Hermès wallpaper in her office, the dining room, the mudroom and an attached loft apartment. The house also has a boutique-style closet that held Angert’s personal handbag collection, with 12-foot ceilings, LED-lit cabinetry and two skylights.

Now with her two sons grown, Angert is putting the Old Tappan home on the market for $5.475 million. If it fetches its asking price, it will be the most expensive home to sell in the township, said co-listing agent Victoria Adamo of Coldwell Banker Realty.

The six-bedroom, roughly 10,000-square-foot house is located about 20 miles northeast of New York City, Adamo said. Angert and her husband, Ross Angert, built the French Chateau-style house in 2014 after buying the roughly 2-acre property for $1.45 million, according to Ross Angert, who said they spent millions on construction.

Jane Angert selected white Hermès wallpaper with a black-and-silver link pattern for her office, where she sometimes sees clients, she said. For the dining room ceiling, she picked navy and white. The apartment has Hermès wallpaper accents in a black-and-white horse pattern. The wallpaper—which, unlike the brand’s bags, is not leather—cost between $300 and $500 a roll at the time, Jane Angert said.

The home also has a piano room, a porte-cochere and a three-car garage, she said. The landscaped grounds contain a 40-foot heated gunite pool, a fire pit and outdoor seating and dining areas, Adamo said.

The home’s designer and custom furnishings, from brands such as Roche Bobois, Poliform and Flexform, are also for sale at a negotiable price, said Adamo.

Jane Angert was a seasoned Hermès collector when the couple founded JaneFinds in the late 1990s. Her husband, who helped establish the brand’s online presence, is a former design and creative director at companies including Sotheby’s, WWE and CBS, he said.

The couple said with their children out of the house, they plan to spend more time in New York City and at their condo in Miami.

The most expensive home sale to date in Old Tappan was a $3.44 million deal in 2021, according to Adamo, who has the listing with her father and colleague Attilio Adamo. The priciest sale in Bergen County was a $27.5 million deal in Alpine, she said.

The median single-family sale price in Old Tappan was about $1.5 million in June, up almost 20% from the same time last year, according to Coldwell Banker Realty.
