A single Powerball ticket sold in Los Angeles won the $1.08 billion jackpot Wednesday, the third-largest Powerball prize in history.

Powerball said the winner can choose between an estimated lump-sum payment of $516.8 million, before tax, or $1 billion in estimated annuity payments over 29 years. That number is also before tax.

The winning numbers were 7, 10, 11, 13 and 24, and the red Powerball of 24.

The winning ticket was purchased at Las Palmitas Mini Market, a convenience store in downtown Los Angeles. Last year’s record $2.04 billion Powerball ticket was also purchased in Los Angeles County.

California law requires the state to release the name of people who win the lottery after they come forward. The winner will have a year to claim the Powerball winnings, according to the California State Lottery.

Three other tickets, sold in Florida, Pennsylvania and Rhode Island, won $2 million for matching five numbers and the power play.

Another 36 tickets won $1 million each for matching the five white ball numbers.

No one had previously won Powerball since the April 19 drawing, when someone in Ohio snagged the $252.6 million jackpot. Before Wednesday, there were 38 drawings without a jackpot winner.

Wednesday’s lottery prize is the sixth largest ever and the fourth to top $1 billion since 2022.

Lottery jackpots have been increasing in recent years after officials for Powerball and Mega Millions made their games harder to win by increasing the amount of numbers players had to choose and expanding the games to more states.

The current Mega Millions jackpot is an estimated $720 million, with the next drawing on Friday.
