Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) have blocked off a part of Trussler Road in Oxford County after a train derailment on Saturday.

Police said in a tweet that they have blocked Trussler Road in both directions at a railway crossing between Township Road 10/Welsh Drive and Township Road 9.

The closure has been in effect since Saturday morning after a train malfunction.

On Sunday, OPP put out another tweet to say the train tracks in the area are being repaired.

Cambridge MP Bryan May put out a statement saying there was no further risk to the public or environment.

"No hazardous material is involved," he said in a tweet.

"Canadian Pacific Kansas City Railroad teams and equipment are responding to begin the removal of the derailed cars. The cause of the derailment remains under investigation."

May said members of CP Rail have been working through the night to repair the train tracks on time for the Monday morning commute.

"CP Rail will be coordinating a re-opening schedule with Oxford County and Region of Waterloo Transportation Departments to ensure the crossing is safe for vehicular traffic," he said in a follow-up tweet.

"Restoration teams will be on-site this week to install a new at-grade crossing and monitor the area."
