Five people were fatally shot, including an 8-year-old, in Cleveland, Texas, Friday night in an incident that began with a noise dispute, according to the San Jacinto County Sheriff’s Office.
The suspected gunman hasn’t been found, authorities said. An arrest warrant has been issued for the suspect along with a $5 million bond.
The victims’ ages were between 8 and 40 years old, the sheriff’s office said. Authorities said their names are being withheld pending family notification.
San Jacinto County Sheriff Greg Capers said officers were called to the home around 11:30 p.m. local time for a harassment complaint.
“While en route, the communications center received multiple 911 calls of an active shooter incident at the dispatch location,” the sheriff’s office said on Facebook.
“Multiple deputies arrived at the residence and located multiple victims deceased in a residence,” the department said.
The suspect used an AR-style rifle in the shooting, Sheriff Capers said. Five other people, including three children, were at the home but escaped injury.
Sheriff Capers said authorities believe the suspect was shooting a weapon in a nearby yard when the victims, who lived next door, asked him to stop. Authorities believe the suspect instead turned his weapon on them.
Texas Rangers are aiding with the investigation in Cleveland, which is located about 50 miles north of Houston, Sheriff Capers said.
