Georgia Bureau of Investigation agent Katie Hartzog Walker was promoted to assistant agent in charge of the GBI’s Metro Gang Task Force, the GBI announced Tuesday.

Walker, who is from Warner Robins, is a resident of Athens and began her career with the state agency as an investigator in the GBI’s regional office in Athens.

“Her skills and expertise in investigating and dismantling criminal organizations will undoubtedly contribute to the continued success of the GBI's efforts to keep our communities safe,” GBI Director Chris Hosey said.

Walker, who graduated the University of Georgia in 2011 with a degree in child and family development, began her career in law enforcement as a sex offender analyst with the Georgia Information and Sharing and Analysis Center.

After joing in the GBI in 2014, she later became a member of the agency’s Special Enforcement Team and became a hostage negotiator. She is also a member of the Georgia Gang Investigators Association.

“Walker’s investigative experience and success as a field agent will be an asset to the Metro Gang Task Force members and the agencies they assist,” GBI Division Director Cynthia Adkins said.

In her new role, Walker will supervise staff assigned to the gang task force which investigates gang associated crimes from murder to drug trafficking.
