Leah Remini has been an outspoken critic of the Church of Scientology since she left the controversial religion in 2013. The actress — who was brought into the church as an 8-year-old after her mother converted — slammed the organization for its alleged scare tactics and seemingly helping certain members avoid jail for various crimes. “Given Leah Remini’s insatiable desire for attention, it comes as no surprise that for two years she has been incapable of moving on with her life and remains obsessed with shamelessly exploiting her former religion in a pathetic attempt to get publicity,” a spokesperson for the Church of Scientology told Us Weekly in 2015. The backlash, however, didn’t stop Remini from continuing to publicly battle the church. In August 2023, she filed a lawsuit against the group for allegedly trying to “destroy” her life in the wake of her church exit.
