The Films department at The Economist is the BAFTA award-winning factual production arm of the global current-affairs newspaper. The Films team captures The Economist’s globally curious outlook in mind-stretching films and short-form videos, which offer clear, sharp analysis of a subject, presented in a compelling and digestible way.

Economist Films is looking for a Senior Production Co-ordinator to join the production team. This is an excellent opportunity to work with a dynamic and vibrant team at the forefront of online documentaries, where you will be working closely with the Unit Manager and Production Assistant to ensure the smooth running of the department.

The right candidate will have at least four credits co-ordinating unscripted content for television or online. Experience with setting up international shoots, dealing with complex travel logistics, and managing post-production paperwork is essential. Experience with copyright and fair dealing is desired.

We are looking for someone who is flexible and organised, enthusiastic to learn and willing to assist across all output from the Films department.

Responsibilities

  • Creating and distributing call sheets
  • Helping research information for risk assessments
  • Arranging any necessary work permits or visas
  • Sourcing and booking crew
  • Sourcing kit, equipment and supplies
  • Arranging carnets for overseas filming
  • Organising travel and accommodation logistics for crew and contributors
  • Cost forecasting with the Unit Manager
  • Reconciling monthly costs
  • Post-production paperwork
  • Dealing with accounts, invoices and expenses
  • Acting as production’s main point of contact with the central team and any remote crew
  • Attending production meetings and booking meeting rooms
  • Assisting with music and archive clearance, and being aware of any copyright or compliance issues
  • Release-form management

  • The ability to remain calm and level-headed under pressure
